I Give This Book to You

by Benjamin Webb

I am offering this book to you,
Even when you read it through,
Like peeling a potato to eat,
And when you’re done,
Your stomach thanks you

A joyful book,

A book you read when there’s nothing to do,
Even when you read it through,
Thoughts of the book will come rushing to you,
A book you read when there’s lots to do

A joyful book,

Even when it’s grey and grim,
And everything seems hopeless,
Thoughts of the book will come rushing to you,
Even when it’s Great and Magical,
And even when it’s grey and grim,

A joyful book,

Like an ancient scroll from the heavens,
Like a seagull soaring high,
Like a portal taking you to another world,
And the words become real,
Like a fantasy story from the heavens,

A joyful book,

The music plays,
A party has started,
And the joy flows through the earth,
Like a gallon of cool water on a summer day,
It’s a wonderful time to have some fun,
The party has ended but the happiness stays
And the earth still plays,

A joyful book,

“Come on!” all the people of the earth say,
Like a bug that is set free from a spider’s web,
The animals of the earth run free,
And not a single person is left at home,
Everyone is free to roam,
And even after the day fades,
“Come on!” all the people and animals of the earth say,

A joyful book,

The book has ended,
Not a single page left unread,
But nobody has fled,
For they want to hear the book again,
And it will be read again,
So it is truly not over,
And every time it’s read,
There seems to be more that’s said,
Even after everyone goes to bed,
The animals of the night chatter,
When it comes to reading there will never be a end,
And it won’t be ended,

A joyful book.
